Year 4: More Murton Park!

What a fantastic day we had at Murton Park today! We greeted Marcus in Latin and then had a tour around a Roman fort before getting dressed in our Roman tunics!

We spent the morning practising our Roman writing and maths skills and also signed a 25 year contract for the Roman army! We also enjoyed making Roman pots which we were able to fetch home.

After lunch in the barracks, we learned more about the armour and weapons that the Romans used. We then practised some military drills with our spear and shield. We also practised javelin throwing and learnt how the army would use a Gladius for fighting! The shields were so heavy!

Finally, to end a busy day we practised the Testudo! After all our hard work, we were paid our wages at the ceremony and were also able to fetch our wages home with us!

Crew Knowles: Rounding to 10!

I was so impressed with Class 11 and their motivation when learning how to round to the nearest 10!

We loved the rounding song and found it so useful to keep singing it to help us round numbers! Check out the rhyme below!

Crew Knowles: Out of school achievements!

I am so proud of Georgia who is achieving great things outside of school! First she has achieved Star of the Week at her new dance school and is making lots of new friends. Second, Georgia and lots of the other girls in Y4 won their 2nd league game this weekend showing great progress and teamwork!

Both Georgia and Poppy scored goals and Georgia was awarded Manager’s Player whilst Poppy was voted Parent’s Player of the match.

Well done!

Class 11: Roman Workshop

Class 11 have had a fantastic day today as we were lucky enough to have Clare come into school to lead a Roman workshop for us. They managed to complete a wide-range of Roman-related activities throughout the day and had lots of fun doing so!

They began the day with introductions and greetings in Latin and then used wax tablets to practise their Roman numerals and letters. They even completed a shopping list!

They then learnt what it would be like to be a part of the Roman army with Hollie definitely making a fantastic soldier! They practised their marching skills and even practised forming a testudo!

After lunch, Class 11 enjoyed learning more about aqueducts and enjoyed creating their own. They also produced more colourful mosaics with some great patterns! Finally, they enjoyed playing some Roman games including one called Knucklebones!

What a busy and fantastic day! They’ve learnt so much that will really support in our upcoming expedition learning!

Crew Knowles: Edible Roads!

Today we created a cross section of a Roman road using biscuits and chocolate! We learnt about the 4 main layers of the Roman road that helped to make it so strong and durable. The best part was eating the road afterwards!

Crew Knowles: Roman Timeline

Today we started our work looking at the timeline of the Romans. We had to work with BC and AD dates which is a really tricky concept! We started by ordering the dates in the correct order and we will add information to them later.

Crew Knowles: Home Learning

Well done to Kaila and Georgia who have produced some lovely home learning! Kaila completed addition and subtraction sums in Roman numerals and Georgia spent time looking at the Roman gods and coming up with a Roman banquet! Well done girls!
