Reception: Community Crew 29th September

Another wonderful Community Crew session this week!

It was a real joy to see the children singing together so beautifully in the hall, a lovely moment of unity and celebration that truly captured the spirit of our school community.

This week, the children have also given shout-outs to their fellow crew members, recognising those who have demonstrated fantastic HOWLs (Habits of Work and Learning). It’s been heartwarming to witness the genuine support and encouragement they’re showing one another – a true reflection of our shared values.

A huge well done to Verity and Storm, our HOWL Point winners this week! Both have shown consistent kindness, worked hard, and demonstrated a real commitment to getting smart, a brilliant effort from you both.

Congratulations also to Ella and Clementine, who received our very first Healthy Eating postcards for always eating all of their school dinners. Keep it up!

And finally, a special congratulations to our Crew Champions this week: Henry from Crew Wallace and Jayden from Crew Jones. Your efforts and attitudes have truly stood out, a well-deserved recognition!

Well done to everyone for a fantastic week!

Class 4: Counting Collection.

Class 4 had a fantastic time in their second Counting Collection session! Right from the start, the children impressed us by confidently recalling our class norms and the key steps needed to be successful.

It was a beautiful session full of curiosity and creativity. Each child explored their own counting collection box, carefully examining the items inside. They worked thoughtfully to represent the numbers in a variety of ways—showing not just their growing mathematical skills, but also their ability to think flexibly and explain their ideas.

We are so proud of the enthusiasm and focus Class 4 brought to this activity. Their excitement for learning truly shone through, and we can’t wait to see how their counting skills continue to grow in future sessions!

Reception: Community Crew 15th September

Another wonderful Community Crew session this week! It was fantastic to see the children singing so beautifully together in the hall – such a lovely moment of unity and joy.

The children have also started giving shout-outs to their crew members, celebrating those who have been showing fantastic HOWLs (Habits of Work and Learning) throughout the week. It’s been heartwarming to see their support and encouragement for one another.

A big well done to Oliver and Ella, our HOWL point winners this week! They’ve consistently demonstrated kindness, worked hard, and shown a real commitment to getting smart, a brilliant effort from both of you.

Thank you also to Halle who brought in some of her work from home, where she had written a beautiful list of what to pack in her school bag. It was lovely and clear you had worked so hard at home.

And finally, a huge congratulations to Clementine, who has been named Crew Wallace’s Crew Champion and Phoebe, who has been named Crew Jones’ Crew Champion this week. Well done, girls a truly well-deserved recognition!

Our day of music and creativity!

We’ve had a wonderfully creative day in Reception, filled with arts and crafts that helped us practise our scissor skills and develop our fine motor control. The children really enjoyed getting hands-on with different materials and showing off their creativity. We also had lots of fun on our green top stage, where the children explored musical instruments, played along to familiar tunes, and expressed themselves through dancing and singing to some of their favourite current songs. It’s been a joyful day full of music, movement, and creativity!

Class 4 are Mathematicians

This week in Reception, we’ve been busy being brilliant mathematicians, exploring the exciting world of positional language. The children worked incredibly hard to demonstrate their understanding using the outdoor equipment, confidently using words like under, on top, in between, and inside to describe where objects and people were placed. They then put their learning into action by giving clear instructions to their friends, helping them move and position themselves using this new vocabulary. We finished the day with a fun and energetic game of Simon Says, which was a fantastic way to consolidate all the great learning from the week. Well done, Reception!

Reception Phonics

This week in Reception we have started to teach phonics. We will have a daily phonics session and your children will be learning new sounds (Phonemes) and they will be learning how to blend these sounds to read CVC words. On a Friday, your children will receive a phonics homework sheet (as seen below) that will be sent home. This is for you to keep, and to practise the sounds and the green words with your child. This will really help their progress in this area which is really important for them to gain those reading foundations in Reception.

If you have any questions regarding phonics or any other aspect of Reception, do not hesitate to come and speak to a member of the F2 team.
