Week beginning 13th April 2020

As you will know on Tuesday next week we should have been returning to school. Therefore there will be staff available to answer your calls, texts and emails Monday to Friday 8am-4pm. (staff may answer your emails outside of these times).

Next week is ‘HOOK WEEK’ and we have some amazing fun activities to share with you including some virtual museum tours and exciting challenges to engage learners into our next terms expeditions (as we would typically do).

We will be continuing with Google hangouts and Google classroom in the same way we have done daily. We will begin calling again if children are not accessing learning platforms and supporting families to get back online. Unfortunately, no one knows how long this period of enforced school closure will last for and lots of you have asked me for more ideas of things to do at home when you’re stuck in the house.

Believe it or not, we love talking to your children! They make us laugh on the toughest of days and they really do feel more like our extended family. We like to hear what they have been getting up to, all their silly stories and proud moments. Suddenly, all this has had to stop and while we all understand why it has to be, we would like to see them or at least speak to them… therefore staff may call and ask to speak to your child/children to check how they are, especially if they have been unable to access hangouts.

During this period of extended isolation we are going to try and make a call to your home once a week. This is not intended to be an invasion of your lives or an insult to your skills as parents, it is simply to try and keep a little normality and to help the children cope with what will inevitably be a very emotionally challenging time.

If there is anything we can help or advise on during this period of uncertainty please do reach out to us and let us know, if we can help in any way we will. Hope to see you all in hangouts or google classroom next week, send your teachers/phase leaders lots of photos too and look out for next weeks challenge for feel good Friday which will be launched tomorrow.

I have added a reminder of our communication methods during this uncertain period

1st check
Online learning interaction with a class teacher.

2nd check (if first check not achieved by 11am)
Text to main mobile number asking to make contact via email or learning action by 12pm

3rd check (if second check not achieved by 1pm)
Phone Call Home to contacts in order (speaking to the child if possible).
Final check (if necessary)
Home visit by 2 staff
Finally, we have, and will continue to; provide our whole curriculum on the ‘Our Expeditions’  and ‘Our home learning platform’ tabs of the school website. As the time progresses we will populate the case studies within our Summer Expeditions to allow for children to learn at home.
Any child who would like an exercise book and pencil to record their work in is welcome to do so please ask class teachers.

Thanks

Mrs Claira Salter
