As part of diversity week class 6 watched a video about disability called The Present. A boy is gifted a puppy but is very unkind to it when he realises it has lost one of its legs. The children’s shocked faces when they saw how cruelly the boy treated the puppy were clear to see, showing just how they felt about his behaviour. He eventually warms to the puppy and takes it to play outside. It is at this point it becomes clear that the boy has also lost part of his leg. The children discussed how this would have made him feel and was perhaps the reason he was so unkind to the puppy.
What amazing empathy the children showed towards the situation and what mature conversations they had about how being disabled did not mean you were any less of a person than a boy or girl who is able bodied.
So proud of you all!
