Learning Council – D Day Shoutout!
Last Thursday, Learning Council was invited to be apart of the D Day service in Thorne Memorial Park. They stood and listened carefully and respectfully and then confidently stood and recited a D Day poem along with children from other primary schools from Thorne and Moorends.
It was an honour to go along and be a part of such a special occasion to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the D Day landings and I was super proud of all the children!
Book Fair still here until Wednesday
Don’t forget the travelling book fair is at Green Top until Wednesday 12th June.
You will be able to visit the book fair through the entrance near the school hall during the following times
8.15 – 8.45am
3.00 – 3.30pm
4.00 – 4.30pm
All books are 3 for 2 and you can pay by cash or card at the fair.
Y5 Debate
The children in Year 5 planned and delivered a debate linked to our book ‘Pig heart boy’. The children worked incredibly hard to prepare structured and well thought out questions and showed respect when providing their responding arguments…a fantastic effort!

Beautiful Work This Week
Year 10 Band ‘LOOM’ @ the Doncaster Festival of Colour
On the last Friday before half term, students from XP Doncaster performed their original composition ‘Like A Storm’ in the magnificent ‘Luminarium’ at Right Up Our Street’s Doncaster Festival of Colour.
As part of ‘LOOL’ music sessions, Year 10 students have worked really hard to write this piece of music with Skinny Pelembe and Higher Rhythm as part of the Noise Collective project.
We are really proud of what they have achieved over the last few months – they’ve created beautiful work and developed a true sense of Crew in music.
There is No Planet B – Product Curation in Carcroft Community
Beautiful work from LKS2s most recent Expedition ‘There Is No Planet B’ has been curated on three signs in Carcroft! Their guiding question was ‘How can we protect our wonderful world?’.
Their learning focussed on the climate emergency and the impact that humanity is having on the environment, as well as what can be done to prevent further damage and protect the planet. The curated signs they have created not only celebrate the beautiful work they have done during the Expedition, but also make a stand about a persistent issue with local fly tipping.
Students have created helpful guides on recycling as an alternative to tipping and how this can benefit the community as a whole.
Friends of Norton Campus Football!
Friends of Norton Campus Association organised a community football match – parents versus teachers at Askern Miner’s Welfare Ground. Teachers were joined by some of Doncaster Rovers coaches and staff from Green Top – a real crew effort. The match was a tight game with both teams really wanting the win but at the final whistle it was the teachers that took home the trophy!
Friends of Norton Campus organised food, face painting and activities for the children – we even had a special visit from Donny Dog! We were supported with over two hundred members of the local community resulting in a really fantastic event.

Headteachers Weekly Newsletter – issue 32
D Day 80 at Green Top
On this day 80 years ago, thousands of troops from 13 different countries took part in Operation Neptune, otherwise known as D Day. This morning, Green Top children from all year groups learned of the courageous actions of the brave men and women who played a part in the Allied operation that launched the successful defeat of Nazis in occupied Western Europe during World War II. Reception children produced Union Flag bunting, Y1 made the parachutes of the soldiers who were dropped over the enemy lines the previous evening to capture roads and bridges, cutting off the supply lines to the German defences and Y2 created silhouettes of the planes that provided air cover for the invasion and the barrage balloons that protected the Allied troops from air strikes. Years 3 and 4 produced fact files of the key facts of the operation, Y5 wrote thoughtful diary entries from the points of view of soldiers from both sides of the conflict as well as their families, and Y6 created beautiful art work depicting the sacrifices made by the soldiers.
All of this work will be collated into a display in school by the History Club, helping to ensure that we will never forget the heavy price that was paid all those years ago for our freedom.

Crew Shaw has remembered the soldiers who has passed and the ones still alive today. We had a PowerPoint with lots of information, the children absolutely loved it! Then they went on to make their aircraft used. Here are some parts of the learning.
