This morning, class 10 had a trip to our local shop to buy sweets/chocolate to use as part of their artwork. The children had lots of fun deciding which goodies to buy!
During parent conferences it became clear that lots of children are enjoying learning whilst using their tablets. There are lots of great apps out there for helping children to learn their phonics and maths. We are gathering a list of the best apps to share with parents. If you have found any learning apps that your children like to use then please let us know in the comments!
This term we are focusing on reading and spelling tricky words. We have already introduced these words through our phonics lessons and now we are looking to see if children are spotting these words in their reading books or spelling them correctly in their writing. We are focusing on Phase 2 and 3 words but some children may progress onto the Phase 4 words. You can help your child at home by:
- Watching tricky word videos (you can find some on youtube by searching ‘phase 2 tricky words’ etc)
- Downloading phonics or tricky word apps
- Making flashcards for reading the words by sight
- Encouraging children to spot these words in their reading books and ensuring they are reading them automatically (not by sounding them out)
- Encouraging children to spell these words (how may time can you write ‘the’ in 1 minute?)
- Encouraging children to spell these words correctly when writing them in sentences
As always, if you would like any further information or support please do come and a have a chat! You can make an appointment with your child’s class teacher.

On Friday the weather stayed dry while we went for our first visit to Thorne park. The children really enjoyed looking around to see what was there. They even thought about what else they would like to see there. They were all really excited to share what they had found when they got back to school and can’t wait to go back and plant some bulbs this Friday with the Mayor!
We would all like to say a huge thank you to the parents and grandparents who came to support We really appreciate it. If you would like to help next time please see the class teacher.
