Summer 1 Diary Dates
Family Bingo Night – Y6 Fundraiser

On Thursday 18th May, Year 6 will be hosting a ‘Family Bingo Night’ in the school hall.
This is an event for children and their families who attend Green Top, therefore all children must be accompanied by a grown-up so that they can play the game. Entrance tickets cost 50p per person – a ticket must be purchased for each person attending the event. Admission is by ticket only.
Due to fire regulations ticket availability is strictly limited. Tickets will go on sale on Thursday 27th April. If you would like to purchase tickets, please send money in an envelope clearly labelled with your child’s name, class and the number of tickets required. The Year 6 children will collect from classrooms and allocate tickets accordingly.
Doors will open at 5:30pm with ‘Eyes Down’ at 6:00pm.
The cards for each game will be on sale on the night and cost £1 a strip. Of course, you can play as many strips as you can manage in each game. There will be 6 games during the evening with lots of chocolate themed prizes. Refreshments will be on sale during the evening and all funds raised are to go towards the Year 6 Leavers Hoodies and end of year celebrations. A raffle will also be held – if you are able to donate a prize for this it would be greatly appreciated.
I do hope you will be able to support us at this event. The more people who come the better the atmosphere so please do try to fit this event into your diary.
Class 11 River Work!
Moving on from our Atlas work, we have been using digital technologies and maps to look within our local area. We found out that the River Don runs through Thorne at the other side of the motorway through a place called Waterside and that we have a Canal which is called the Stainforth and Keadby Canal. We Then used a river map of the UK to be able to locate, place and label some of them onto our own blank maps!

Class 12: Locating Mountains
Class 12 used atlases today to locate different mountains within different continents. I was SO proud of how hard everyone worked and the resilience shown when completing the activity! I was also really impressed with the children’s prior knowledge on the difference between countries and continents! Well done!

Class 13 – Locating Rivers 💧
In our lesson this afternoon, we have been locating some of the major rivers across the United Kingdom. We used maps on the iPads to locate them before adding and labelling them to our own blank maps.

Class 13 – Locating Mountains 🗻🏔⛰
We have been using our map skills to locate some of the largest mountains and mountain ranges across the world. We used an atlas to look for some of the largest mountains on each continent and then labelled them on a world map and wrote down each of their heights.

Hook Week!
This week class 9 have been really busy making resources to immerse the classroom linked to our new expedition, ’Where could your journey take you?’
Awesome work everyone!
