Wow! What a fantastic start to our KS1 expedition … What will I do to be a superhero in my community? All of the children looked amazing in their hero dress-up and we ended the day with a protest to parents against litter on our school grounds. Remember – Pick up litter! Use the bins!
Well done everyone.

Today we made placards to support the ideas that we have been discussing this week, such as recycling, no more wars, picking up litter and respecting animals! The children can’t wait to be part of a demonstration to encourage and support change to make our community a better place!
I am so proud!

following on from our discussions yesterday in class 8, the children went on a litter hunt around school to see how much rubbish they could find on our playgrounds. They created a tally chart of the type of rubbish that they found. Paper and food wrappers were the most common types of litter.
we then sent an email to Miss Salter to persuade her to get us some litter picking equipment. I was so impressed with their passion today!
super work guys

One of the main issues that kept creeping into our discussions today involved the amount of rubbish around school and in community areas in Thorne. It was great to hear the children’s views on this and the fact that they want to do something about it. Super job today class 8

Today we have been discussing how we could make our community a better place to live. They were coming up with some fantastic ideas that I can’t wait to share with you soon. Above are some pictures of the candidates who put themselves forward to be in the vote to become our class 8 mayor! They worked in small groups to create and deliver a speech with reasons as to why they would be a good choice for our mayor. It was a very close contest but Matilda deservedly won. Keep an eye out for changes that will be happening because of our class!
Super day guys!

Class 8 have been exploring their new year 2 books today and I enjoyed listening to them read. We discussed the importance of reading and how it is my favourite subject so I’m excited to see how the children progress this year with their reading skills!

In class 8 today we have been discussing and learning about superheroes in our community, the children have done some super writing and acting out this afternoon. Well done everyone!
The children today showed me some great English skills when they wrote letters to the crayons from our book ‘The Day The Crayon’s Quit’. It is a great starting point for year 2 and I can’t wait to see how their writing progresses throughout the year!
I am super excited for our year ahead!
