Today in Crew Jackson we focused our SPAG learning on modal verbs. The children enjoyed the above song, which recapped the different modal verbs we can use to show certainty and possibility. Now you can enjoy the song at home too!

Deepening our reading skills
Today our reading fluency task was a page from our new class text ‘Can we save the tiger?’. We read all about partula snails and then completed 5 minute reading challenge questions, practicing our retrieval skills.
We are confident readers
Today in Crew Jackson, we were introduced to our new class text ‘Can we save the tiger?’. The children went on a gallery walk looking at and discussing a number of images taken from the book. Through peer discussion they were able to make links and establish that our new book could be about endangered animals.
The children then went on to work collaborative in groups, to develop fluency and apply their knowledge on speech reading, by working together to present a page from the book. I was so impressed with their confident, clear and fluent reading. They pronounced some difficult technical words and thought about the expression they needed to use to impact on the audience.
Well done guys I was so proud listening to each group.

Let’s be scientists
On Friday Crew Jackson spent the morning learning about plant reproduction. They explored the different methods of seed dispersal, found out about self and cross pollination and discovered that some plants do not reproduce from seeds. I think their favourite part of the morning was dissecting a lily and identifying the female and male parts of the flower.
Super work guys as always 🙂
We are authors!
A massive shout out to all of Crew Jackson for their focus and concentration on producing their best writing when completing their final touchdown writing. I can’t wait to read your final stories.
Who is in our support network? – Children’s Mental Health Week
This morning in Crew Jackson, we discussed who supports us to grow, who lifts us up and who teaches us new things. We recorded these by beginning to create ‘support network hot air balloons’. The children were very reflective when sharing who is in their support network and why those people are important.
We are scientists
Keep working hard guys!
Celebrating home learning
A massive shout out to Oliver for his awesome home learning. I was blown away with his hard work at home to produce the layers of the rainforest. This morning he showed great confidence in explaining it to our crew.
Thanks for sharing Oliver. You definitely deserve 50 Work Hard HOWL points!
Celebrating Maths Day in Crew Jackson
It was lovely to see so many children dressed up for the NSPCC Maths Day. Big shout out to Summer-Mai and Jakobi who won a small prize for creating their own unique maths themed tops.
We enjoyed a chilled out afternoon to end a work of hard work by eating biscuits and practicing our times tables on ttrockstars. Our Crew are determined to win Mr Ambler’s Year 5 Battle of the Bands!
This week we realised how important knowing our times table facts is. We needed to know them for converting fractions to the same denominator and also for calculating perimeter during our maths talk session.
Keep practicing guys!

We are biologists!
This afternoon, in Crew Jackson we began our case study 2 on the biology of animals. Today we focused on animal classification. Everyone was full of enthusiasm for sharing their prior knowledge and then after research we shared further knowledge we had gained. The children were very proud of the anchor charts they created.
