This week in Miss Rodgers and Mrs Clays groups the children are consolidating their learning. The children have been taking their latest assessment and we have been blown away with the improvement in children’s reading fluency. Thanks for all your help with this at home. We hope you have enjoyed reading with your children and seeing their progress!
Year 1 and year 2 will be welcoming parents and carers into school for our family learning session this week. We will be doing orienteering outside on the school grounds so please bring a coat!
Maths Week 2025 is here, and we’re kicking things off with an exciting home learning challenge! This is your chance to get creative, have fun with numbers, and showcase your mathematical thinking.
For our first home learning challenge, we’d like you to choose a number and create a poster displaying different ways to represent it. You can show your number using:
Numerals (e.g. 7)
Words (e.g. seven)
Pictures (e.g. seven stars)
Number sentences (e.g. 3 + 4 = 7)
Arrays
Tally marks
Money
Anything else creative!
How to Take Part
Choose a number that inspires you.
Design and decorate your poster using any materials you like – be as colourful and imaginative as possible!
Make sure your poster clearly shows your chosen number in a variety of ways.
Submit your entry to Mr Mumby by Friday to take part in the challenge.
We can’t wait to see your fantastic ‘Ways to Show a Number’ posters! Get your thinking caps on, grab your pencils, and start creating.
A huge well done to all of our fantastic award winners this week! It was amazing to see our crew champions so excited to receive their ‘character traits’ badges too!
Also, attendance in key stage 1 has been amazing the last couple of weeks so a huge shout out to Crew Shaw and Crew Cooper for 100% attendance last week!
I love sharing all of these fabulous achievements every week, it makes us feel very proud! X x
Tomorrow is Friday – reading celebration day! Please remember to return all reading books to school. The children will be reading their books during our morning activity and then they will take their books to their phonics group for their phonics teacher to change their shared reading books. Children who return their class library books will also get the opportunity to browse through the class library and choose a new book to enjoy!
Here is Class 5 completing their reading during their morning activity last week:
We can’t wait to celebrate the wonderful reading you have been doing in school tomorrow. A big thank you to all parents for being on board with our new home reading strategy! We hope you are enjoying sharing the books with your children at home and that they are impressing you with their reading skills.
Miss Coopers phonics group have been focussing on the /igh/ grapheme this week. Don’t forget to read your Shared Reading books to your grown ups at home and practise your phonics homework sheet.
Over the past couple of weeks we have been focussing on our knowledge of red words and our reading fluency. I have seen lots of progress and some amazing learning attitudes from the children. It is important that children now practise their phonics homework and reading books so that they can secure their learning.
These are the red words we will be securing over the next week:
