This morning during crew, we walked to the Pentecostal Church to donate some spare school uniforms to their charity shop. It felt rewarding to know that something as simple as giving away old uniforms could help others in our community.

This week, Year 6 have been learning all about Charles Darwin’s fascinating theory of evolution, focusing on his famous studies of finches from the Galápagos Islands in South America. To build their background knowledge, the children explored how Darwin discovered that the finches’ beaks had adapted over time to help them eat different types of food. They then became scientists themselves, using a range of equipment to mimic different beak shapes and testing how effective they were at picking up various “foods” such as rice, elastic bands, and pasta. By comparing results, the children concluded which “beak” worked best for each food type, just as Darwin had observed. To finish, they sketched drawings of the finches beaks, recording the type of beak and the food each bird ate—bringing Darwin’s discoveries to life in a fun and hands-on way!

Yesterday in both reading and science, we were active learners doing read and hunt around the room activities. In reading we read sentences from this week’s texts on ‘The Gunpowder Plot’ and ‘How fireworks work’, then made sensible attempts on the meaning of given words using the context to help us. In science we gathered facts from around the room about the adaptations of different plants and animals from the rainforest. We went on to teach a partner about an animal we had researched.

What a great day for the boys this afternoon as they represented school at their first ever tournament. It’s fair to say we showed lots of courage and determination to be our best. Some highlights included a wonderful solo goal in a tough match, lots of great defensive work and some brave goalkeeping. We can’t wait for more! 🙂 Just a reminder to bring the kits back tomorrow, please!

Friday was World Mental Health Day so to get us thinking about this, Year 3 spent some time in crew playing Pictionary to share the activities that they do which they feel are good for their mental health. Then we all chose one of these suggestions to take away and try for ourselves.

Class 7 loved practicing their skills in PE of chest passes and bounce passes. We even put our skills to use in a game where we had to try and get points for knocking the object off the cone.

This week in phonics we have been learning a poem called ‘myself’ which is all about our body parts. The children loved jumping up to touch their own body parts when it came up in the poem. Great active learning Nursery crew!

In reading today we tried to be more active by finding our inference questions around the room! I was really impressed with everyones efforts in reading today and their skills to find appropriate evidence!

We went down to the ‘ball park’ and it was filled with budding baseball ears trying to hit a home run. What a lovely lunchtime and so full of enthusiasm. Well done Year 1 and 2 for being so sensible and getting into the baseball spirit!

We loved our America day, whether it was rocking with Mr Pickles or dancing with Mrs Rayner. Thank you so much for all of the fun we had!
