Year 5 – National Mining Museum

Yesterday, Year 5 had a fabulous day exploring the National Mining Museum. The children were able to go down 140 metres in a cage and explore a real mine. The children were blown away by the facts and stories they were told about miners and their communities. Unfortunately, technology is not allowed underground so there’s no photographs to show how fantastic it is but I’m sure the children will have lots of fantastic stories to share! We then had a lovely time exploring the different places to build our knowledge even more. We even met some pit ponies and saw some canaries similar to what they would have had in the mine. The children’s behaviour was exemplary and members of staff commented on their amazing engagement, attitudes and respect! Well done Year 5!
