Phonics Keyrings

Tomorrow the children will bring home a phonics keyring. This keying will contain the sounds we have covered in class over the last two weeks. Please practise the sounds regularly at home to ensure children can recall the sounds confidently. Keyrings can be returned every Wednesday in the plastic wallet provided for new sounds to be added. Some of the children will be feeling confident with these sounds already and we ask that these children practise making words using the sounds e.g. Can you make the word as, it, sat, cat. You can also make a word and ask your child to blend the sounds together to read the word you have made.

When learning the sounds with your child it is really important to ensure they pronounce the sounds correctly. This video will show you how each sound should be pronounced. It is really important that children learn to pronounce the sounds correctly as it will make it easier for them to read words.

The video below shows the songs the children learn in class to match each sound:

Don’t forget we will also be posting a weekly phonics activity in the Google Classroom. If you have any questions or concerns about your child’s phonics development please do not hesitate to ask you child’s class teacher.
