‘If We Plant Trees…’ – Legacy @ NJS

As part of their awesome POLs this week, every single Year 3 and 4 child has planted a tree at Norton Junior School, with support from Murphy’s and their Roots Programme.

They also celebrated their product from last term (more on this next time!) and unveiled their awesome digital artwork, made from images of recycling – this will be on display in school after the Easter break!

Plover’s Eco Garden!

KS1 at Plover have just finished their Expedition ‘The Blue Planet’. Their final product has provided a lasting legacy for the community – a lovely eco garden that will develop across future Expeditions to provide a range of habitats and food sources for a variety of insects, birds and mammals.

Students dedicated the trees to community heroes who have helped to improve the lives of people across Intake and Doncaster at their POL yesterday – including Mrs Ogle and Dame Rosie Winterton!

Playground leaders (pupils) wanted!

To help make break times even better we are asking for the children to volunteer to be a playground leader (in KS2). This will include a vote.

If this role is something that you are interested in, create a poster that shows:

  • Why you would be a great playground leader?
  • How can you help adults at break time?
  • What ideas you have for playtime games?
  • What character traits you will show with this
  • Are you confident to lead other children?

If you wanted to do a bit of Easter homework (no pressure) then you can create the poster, as mentioned above.

The deadline for this (sent to class teachers) will be Wednesday 17th April.

Sign Language Week at Green Top

We are delighted to have taken part in Sign Language Week last week at Green Top. The children focussed on different things throughout the week linked to days of the week, family, colours and also the alphabet.

Across the whole school, the children took part in a sign and sing- we hope that you enjoy our video that the children worked incredibly hard to put together.

We cannot wait to learn more and incorporate BSL into our curriculum in the future.

KS1 Artists

We are so proud of the artwork produced by the children in KS1 during this terms expedition. The children put lots of effort into their work. First the children sketched their animal. Then they painted the background and their chosen animal using watercolour paints. Next they edged their painting with water colour pencils and finally they embellished their picture using collage skills. It was lovely to spend quality time with the children teaching them the different skills required to produce their artwork. The children completed each stage in small groups which gave us a lovely opportunity to spend time together chatting away as we spent hours building up our pictures over the past few weeks! The children have demonstrated a lot of pride in their work and so they should! The results are fabulous.

We are so proud of you all and hope your artwork will remind you of all the fabulous memories made during our expedition this term.

Please take a photograph of yourself with your framed artwork and email them to your class teacher! We can’t wait to see where you put them!

KS1’s scaly, furry and hissing visitors!

As part of our Presentation of Learning last Friday we had a visit from Reptile Rendezvous who brought some of the creatures we have been learning about, and who’s survival depends on how we treat our world. We were able to handle some of the animals including a huge python and some beautiful lizards. We fed a meerkat chicken and gave Stinkabelle the skunk some of her favourite cat treats!

Meeting these gorgeous creatures up close really made us realise how we much we need to protect them.
