Exciting summer dance opportunity for all pupils

Summer holiday project: digital dance with The Royal Ballet

Dear all

After we sadly had to cancel plans for working with Green Top School on the exciting Royal Ballet project in July, we have now got an alternative online offer for your students, which I really hope you can help us offer to them.

The Royal Ballet, Cast and Doncaster Metropolitan Borough Council would like to invite your students to get involved in a fun and inspiring online dance project during the summer holidays.

‘Donny Dancing’ aims to give Doncaster residents, of all ages and abilities, the opportunity to get moving, and get creating, inspired by The Royal Ballet’s Romeo and Juliet.
Students and their families are invited to create an original dance relating to, or inspired by, their experiences of lockdown. Over the three-week project  they will have the opportunity to learn some of the steps from Romeo and Juliet with a Royal Ballet professional online and create their own dance, exploring the ballet’s themes of loss and separation, but also, overwhelmingly its themes of love, determination, togetherness, friendship, community and solidarity.
Starting on 27 July students will be invited to explore online videos and other content to inspire their creativity. We invite all those taking part to perform their dance at home or in the local area on 14 August at 4pm. And we will ask you to film your performance and submit it to us online so that we can feature it as part of a dance film to be made with Royal Ballet dancers and screened online on 5 September.
We hope you will want to be involved in Donny Dancing, and that this exciting project will be an opportunity for all of us to celebrate the communities of Doncaster.
If you are applying to be part of the project as an individual, use this form: http://www.roh.org.uk/learning/doncaster-sign-up-individuals
If you apply for your child lease can you inform Miss Schon at [email protected] so that she can keep you up to date. We would love to see any videos and photos of you taking part too so that we can celebrate this as a school community.
