Year 5 continued their focus in Art, learning about Sir Quentin Blake and his creative methods. We drafted, critiqued and the completed some outstanding final drafts of Stephenson’s Rocket!
Y5 Expert Visitor – Train Driver
Yesterday, Year 5 enjoyed a visit from one of our Y6 children’s mums – Sarah – who is a real-life train driver. We enjoyed learning about the different roles that Sarah has worked in as well as all the training she has had to complete in order to be a successful train driver. The children asked lots of varied and interesting questions, and we were really shocked to find out that there are only 39 female train drivers in the whole country … out of 400+! Lots of the children showed huge enthusiasm for life on the tracks so perhaps we have some budding train drivers amongst our Green Top crew?
Year 5 Photography Club
Today we have had 2 challenges to complete. The first one was taking photographs of things close up and then trying to guess what they were. Can you work any of them out?
Our next challenge was to take pictures of something beginning with each letter of the alphabet. I wonder if you could have a go over half term?
Year 5 World Read Aloud!
We had a lovely end to our Wednesday when parents (and a couple of little visitors) joined us to read aloud together to acknowledge the special day!
On point “One-Point”-Y5 Family Learning!!
Crew Oldridge/Walton plus parents created some outstanding artwork in our Family Learning session! Such a productive afternoon…thanks to all who came to support our children!

Here are some videos to support you with the methods we are teaching in school.
Year 5 Photography Club
We have had a great afternoon looking at perspective and turning ourselves into giants or ants! Have a look at some of our favourite pictures.
Crew Oldridge’s Experiments
Crew Oldridge had a busy couple of weeks conducting experiments including evaporation, filtration and the Muddy Water Challenge to separate the components of muddy water using the knowledge they had acquired during the week. Clearly, these ‘Science Hook Days’ were enjoyed by all! WE ARE SCIENTISTS!
Year 5/6 – Community Meeting!
On Monday, we had our first Community Crew Meeting since Christmas, it was lovely to see everyone together again and celebrate the great start to our learning in Spring term!
A huge shout out to everyone who received HOWL point certificates and especially our Crew Champions! An added shout out to Miss Barnett’s Crew for their impressive Howl point total!! I wonder if anyone will top it next week?!
Year 5 – XP Outdoors and PE Days
This term, Year 5 will be continuing XP outdoors with Mr Kershaw. This will now be on a WEDNESDAY morning! Please can children bring a sensible and warm change of clothes and shoes as they will be outside.
PE will continue to be on a THURSDAY afternoon so children will need appropriate PE kits for outdoor PE.
Many thanks,
The Year 5 Team x
