Maths Week and NSPCC Number Day

Dear Parents and Carers

Next week is maths week at Green Top (4th – 7th May).  We will be celebrating maths and to do this we will be doing the following:

  • Each day you will be informed of a challenge you can complete at home and bring into school or email to [email protected]
  • Each day there will be a FUN maths challenge on the blog for you to complete as a family at home
  • Friday is NSPCC Maths day so we will be having a ‘maths’ dress up day (£1 donation)

Please see the school blog for links to the NSPCC maths day website, ideas for dress up and daily posts next week.

Tuesday’s challenge is:  Maths‌ ‌is‌ ‌everywhere!‌  ‌Take‌ ‌a‌ ‌photograph‌ ‌of‌ something‌ ‌maths‌ ‌related‌ ‌around‌ ‌our‌ ‌local‌ ‌community.‌  ‌This‌ ‌could‌ ‌be‌ ‌a‌ ‌percentage‌ ‌in‌ ‌a‌ ‌shop‌ ‌sale,‌ ‌a‌ ‌date‌ ‌on‌ ‌a‌ ‌building,‌ ‌a‌ ‌bus‌ ‌timetable‌ ‌or‌ ‌numbers‌ ‌on‌ ‌a‌ ‌traffic‌ ‌sign.‌  ‌Who‌ ‌will‌ ‌be‌ ‌the‌ ‌most‌ ‌creative?‌  ‌Send‌ ‌your‌ ‌photographs‌ ‌to‌ ‌[email protected].  Good Luck!

Last year was a huge success and enjoyed by all – we can’t wait to see what next week brings.

Thanks

Mrs K Overson

Dress up ideas:

Counting, counting, all day long!

We have been doing lots of different counting activities today in our maths learning. We were counting lots of different things in the classroom. We were adding spots to ladybirds, we made some pens and counted some animals into them and we did some super matching activities. All of the children were getting smart and I am so proud of you all!

Well done Scarecrows

Tractor Visit

We were so lucky to have a tractor visit us in EYFS last week. The children in Class 4 loved this and they asked some amazing questions. We hope that you enjoyed it as much as the teachers did!

We have lots of exciting things coming up this term and the children are already busy continuing their learning.

We have added the Summer Term homework menu to the online classroom for you to view and ask that you please practise and return reading books regularly for changing. Our reading books are changed on Tuesday’s and Fridays.

Celebration of Learning

We loved our Spring Expedition ‘How can we make, fix and change the world to make it a happier place?’ For our product we created a video to teach other people about the things we have learned. We hope you enjoy it!

Please also take a look at the website we have created to signpost people to the help available in our local community.
