EYFS visit Smile A While

Today a group of our children visited their friends at Smile A While. The children gifted an activity pack they had created filled with activities for a party. They had written every member a Christmas card and customised them with their very own label. More importantly the children included their final product from this expedition. Each member received a bespoke badge and card to say thank you for our new friendship and the celebrations we have already shared together. We look forward to working with you in the new year and wish you all a very merry Christmas!

Letter Formation

This week we have been focussing on forming letters correctly. This week our focus was the ‘Curly Caterpillar Letters’. We learned that we need to start at the top and then move our pen round to the left to form the Curly Caterpillar shape. This shape then helped us to form the rest of the curly caterpillar letters correctly. It is important that when we write our letters they start and end in the write place. The children have really enjoyed forming their letters this week and have concentrated very well on following th3 instructions. We will continue to work on letter formation over the next two weeks.

Phonics Update

The children in F2 have now completed Phase 2 phonics and they have blown us away with their phonics assessments. At the end of phase 2 children are expected to:

  • Recognise all (or most) of the phase 2 sounds
  • Recognise the Phase 2 tricky words and spot them when reading
  • Be able to segment and write simple words containing the Phase 2 sounds e.g. cat, pan, duck, hill
  • Be able to read Phase 2 words and simple sentences (at the level of their reading book)

This week we have been focusing on speed blending and recognising some simple words by sight e.g. it, is, on. This is to develop our reading fluency. We have also been building up our memory of words by trying to recognise words that are repeated in books instead of needing to sound them out again.

Funky Friday Fun

We have been working so hard in school so we had a special treat during Funky Friday Time – Mickey and Minnie Mouse came to visit! How lucky are we? The children were absolutely thrilled. Thank you Mickey and Minnie for visiting us!

Save the Children: Christmas Jumper Day

On Friday 10th December, we will be having a Christmas jumper day to raise money for the ‘Save the Children’ charity. Children are encouraged to come to school wearing a Christmas jumper or t-shirt and bring a donation of £1. Thank you for your support, we can’t wait to see your Christmas outfits!

More Autumn Fun

We had lots of leaves in our outdoor area today. The children enjoyed brushing them into a pile and then jumping into them. They also enjoyed throwing them into the air and watching them tumble back to the ground. We found some huge leaves.
