Exploring Trees!

As part of our expedition ‘how can we help the world we live in?’ we have focused on deforestation and the importance of trees. We had an expert visit us in school to teach us how trees adapt to their environment and we had a look around our grounds at some of the different trees. We were shocked how different all of the trees were and the different ways they had adapted to their surroundings!

☃️ HELP NEEDED – Christmas Photos 🎅🏻

As part of our Christmas celebrations this year, Crew Taylor will be putting together a number of different videos. It would be great if you were able to send me a photo (preferably landscape) of your child decorating the Christmas tree at home. This could include putting the lights/baubles on or even a picture next to an already decorated tree. It would be brilliant to see as many children on the videos as possible!

Geography Lessons! 🇬🇧

Last week, the children collaborated to create a poster showing the water cycle as part of their learning in regards to rivers. The children also created a map of the United Kingdom and attempted to locate some of its many cities. Super work from everyone!

NSPCC Lesson

Today the children have been taking part in a special lesson from the NSPCC. Unfortunately they were unable to come into school to deliver the lesson but we we’re able to get involved with an online video hosted by Ant and Dec and the NSPCC team. The children engaged in lots of good discussion around a number of different topics and completed several different tasks.

Sewing Enthusiasts!

Well done to Olivia and Keira who this week have been practising their sewing skills at home. The girls have clearly put a lot of effort into their work and created some fantastic final products. Well done!

Diwali Art 🕯

Shout out to Sophie for creating this beautiful rangoli pattern at home! As part of our crew session yesterday, we looked at the celebration of Diwali and the story of Rama and Sita and how this celebration is similar/different to our celebration at Christmas and New Year.
Well done Soph, this is a beautiful piece of art! 50 house points!!! 🌟

Special Visitor! 🔥 👩‍🚒

Year 5 and 6 have been so lucky today by having Firefighter James Fenwick in to talk to them about the devastating fires at Hatfield Moors back in May 2020- this linking to our expedition surrounding Deforestation.

James was one of many of the brave firefighters that worked tirelessly at the moors to combat these fires for 6 weeks and explained to us the effects the fires had on the local wildlife and their habitats as well as showing us lots of different images and explaining his journey on this job; from the start of the fires, all the way through to the end. We were all so shocked at the damage that was caused by a disposable bbq!!

The children had lots of questions for James about the moors fire and found it really interesting hearing the ins and outs of his job role. A huge thank you to him for answering them so well and for taking time out of his busy, important schedule to come and talk through this with us. We really appreciate it!!

Super Sketching!

We have been building on our sketching skills from earlier in the week by applying them to our drawings. We have been sketching an image of the tree as part of our deforestation theme. Here are some of our first drafts. I think they look fab!
