Class 15 – Rail Expert Visitors

Today, we have enjoyed two fantastic workshops – one about rail safety from Network Rail and the other about careers in the rail industry by Northern Rail. Both workshops were fantastically interesting and gave us plenty of food for thought. Well done to everyone – your behaviour and manners towards our visitors were impeccable. A special shout out goes to Edward who made a wonderful conductor!

Class 15 – A Fantastic First Week with Mrs Dutton

Wow! What a fantastic week, I have enjoyed with my new class – Class 15. Everybody has made me feel so welcome and I have been so impressed by all of your learning and craftsmanship efforts … keep up the amazing work and I can’t wait to see how far we can go together!

This week, we have enjoyed learning about: decimals and fractions in Maths; non-fiction texts in English; watercolours and The Flying Scotsman in Expedition; and The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe in Reading … we even managed to squeeze in a bit of hockey for PE in the rain, too! I hope everyone is ready for a well-earned rest over the weekend 🙂

Don’t forget, if you want to do a bit of extra background research about The Flying Scotsman in preparation for writing next week, you could check out the Railway Museum website at: https://www.railwaymuseum.org.uk . Or even pay them a visit in York with your family over the weekend?

I can’t wait to see you all again on Monday – have a lovely weekend, Mrs Dutton x

Y5 Expert Visitor – Train Driver

Yesterday, Year 5 enjoyed a visit from one of our Y6 children’s mums – Sarah – who is a real-life train driver. We enjoyed learning about the different roles that Sarah has worked in as well as all the training she has had to complete in order to be a successful train driver. The children asked lots of varied and interesting questions, and we were really shocked to find out that there are only 39 female train drivers in the whole country … out of 400+! Lots of the children showed huge enthusiasm for life on the tracks so perhaps we have some budding train drivers amongst our Green Top crew?

A final shout out to Crew Barnett!

A massive thank you to everyone for the messages and gifts – I am totally overwhelmed. It has been a pleasure to teach at Green Top and work with some amazing people and children.

Crew Barnett – You are all brilliant!! I am gutted that I can’t make it to the end of the year with you but I know you will all do me proud! Remember to focus on yourselves and push yourselves so that you get everything you deserve.

Well done Aoife!

It is always great to see achievements from out of school. Aoife smashed her dance competition last weekend! Good luck for this weekend as well – I am sure you will be great!
