Armistice Day at Green Top

Crew council were very proud to be invited to take part in the Armistice Day ceremony in Thorne Memorial Park this morning. Our children proudly wore their poppies and recited a specially composed poem to remember the fallen in all wars. Our preparations for this began a few weeks ago when we decorated netting in History Club and constructed a wreath to be laid at the Cenotaph on Remembrance Sunday. Our Councillors can be seen with both of these tributes in the photos below. As a school we focused on the Tomb of the Unknown Warrior in Westminster Abbey and learned a little about the origins of this very special grave. Why not ask your children to share the story with you? Also, each Crew is now the proud owner of a ‘Garden of Remembrance’ display, where we can remember each day the sacrifices of these brave men and women. Even our Nurture Hub children got involved and produced a lovely poppy collage.

When you go home, tell them of us and say  For your tomorrow We gave our today.
