Year 6 – Crucial Crew

Y6 visited the Lifewise Centre today to participate in the Crucial Crew programme. The Lifewise Centre provides the children with essential knowledge and skills to be able to keep safe in the local community.

Some of the different scenarios included road safety, transport safety, fire safety and a mock trial in a Magistrates’ Court! All of the scenarios are taught by volunteering experts from South Yorkshire Police, South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue and the South Yorkshire Safer Roads Partnership.

The children participated in all of the scenarios showing real maturity and thoughtfulness. Check out the slide show below.

Class 8 Summer term hook fun

Class 8 have had such a busy but fantastic first day back at school. We have played some crew games, done a quiz on Doncaster, had Geoff, our ICT expert in to school to talk about drones and show them aerial photographs of Thorne and the children have matched photographs of some adults in school with their baby photos to look at how they have changed over time.

Hope the children aren’t too tired…see you all tomorrow

Year 3 XP outdoors REMINDER

This term, year 3 get the exciting opportunity to develop their outdoor skills the expertise of our outdoor lead, Mr Kershaw!

Please can we remind all parents/carers to ensure that the children bring their XP outdoors kit with them every Wednesday. This includes a change of clothes and footwear suitable for spending time outdoors (weather appropriate) as well as sunscreen / hat and a water bottle during particularly warmer weather.

Thank you! Year 3 + Mr K!

Playground Leader Reminder (KS2)

Just a reminder about the option to apply for a playground leader role!

To help make break times even better we are asking for the children to volunteer to be a playground leader (in KS2). This will include a vote.

If this role is something that you are interested in, create a poster that shows:

  • Why you would be a great playground leader?
  • How can you help adults at break time?
  • What ideas you have for playtime games?
  • What character traits you will show with this
  • Are you confident to lead other children?

If you wanted to do a bit of Easter homework (no pressure) then you can create the poster, as mentioned above.

The deadline for this (sent to class teachers) will be Wednesday 17th April.

Class 5 Attendance

Well done to these little superstars who have 100% attendance for the Spring Term. All of the children received a certificate, pencil and packet of sweets. The children’s names were also put into a pot and one name was selected to win a special Easter prize! The Year 1 Easter prize winner was Poppy!

Special shout out to Isla and Alfie who have had 100% attendance for both the Autumn and Spring Term!

Beautiful Work This Week

Sign Language Week at Green Top

Last week was Sign Language week in the UK – so all the students at Green Top have made this video, singing and signing the song ‘True Colours’ as part of the celebration!

‘If We Plant Trees…’ – Legacy @ NJS

As part of their awesome POLs this week, every single Year 3 and 4 child has planted a tree at Norton Junior School, with support from Murphy’s and their Roots Programme.

They also celebrated their product from last term (more on this next time!) and unveiled their awesome digital artwork, made from images of recycling – this will be on display in school after the Easter break!

Plover’s Eco Garden!

KS1 at Plover have just finished their Expedition ‘The Blue Planet’. Their final product has provided a lasting legacy for the community – a lovely eco garden that will develop across future Expeditions to provide a range of habitats and food sources for a variety of insects, birds and mammals.

Students dedicated the trees to community heroes who have helped to improve the lives of people across Intake and Doncaster at their POL yesterday – including Mrs Ogle and Dame Rosie Winterton!

Highlights from KS1 and LKS2’s COL @ Green Top

On Friday, KS1 and LKS2 at Green Top celebrated their learning for their two Expeditions – ‘The Blue Planet’ and ‘There Is No Planet B’

The celebration included an interactive art gallery, a visit from Reptile Rendezvous and showcasing awesome family learning.
