EYFS: Who will we see in the woods today?

In September 2017, Classes 1,2, 3 and 4 began their Learning Exploration. The Guided question was ‘Who will we see in the woods today?’

The Learning targets were:

I can listen attentively in a range of situations.

I can listen to stories, accurately anticipating key events and respond to what they hear with relevant comments, questions or actions.

I can express myself effectively, showing awareness of listeners’ needs.

I can develop their own narratives and explanations by connecting ideas or events.

I can confidently speak in a familiar group, will talk about their ideas, and will choose the resources my need for my chosen activities.

I can demonstrate understanding when talking with others about what I have read.

I can select and use technology for particular purposes.

I can sing songs, make music and dance, and experiment with ways of changing them.

I can use what I have learnt about media for a purpose.

We studied how authors introduce characters, the settings of different books and explored the types of setting within our exploration. We expressed our thoughts and ideas through a range of media, including music, dance and drama. We learnt how to perform confidently using story language and mix media to create a performance.

We hooked the children and enhanced our classrooms by developing the learning environment to include story houses, tree houses and using natural resources to create the woodland feel. The children developed creative arts skills by successfully working with a professional (from DARTES) who led a school based workshop on rhythm and music. Mrs Hardman was our house expert, utilising her musical qualifications.

The Learning Exploration culminated when we created a music video sharing our story based learning through song. We launched the music video at a premiere and had a launch in the school hall.
